Overview
Formerly Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, the circa-1927 movie palace remains one of Los Angeles’s most celebrated landmarks and a major premiere and tourist destination, visited by more than four million people annually.
Architecture
Its theatrical facade, monumental forecourt, and layered ornamentation make the building less a single-use asset than a public-stage object.
History
The historic structure and its world-famous forecourt are subject to a long-term net lease to Chinese Theatres, LLC, with a KLM affiliate holding the fee interest.
Cultural context
Few properties collapse architecture, entertainment, ritual, and public memory so directly; it is cultural infrastructure in the literal sense.
