Overview

Designed by acclaimed architect Robert Maynicke and built in 1899-1900, the corner building was acquired by a KLM affiliate in 2002 and renovated in 2007-2008.

Architecture

The renovation restored the limestone facade, reintroduced the original balustrade and storefront bay windows, added new mechanical systems, and brought a penthouse to the composition.

History

The property now houses two floors of retail, four full-floor office spaces, and two luxury rental loft apartments.

Cultural context

95 Fifth Avenue reflects preservation as authorship: old fabric treated seriously, then tuned for contemporary urban life.
